1. Choose and install
With Node.js and npm installed, open a terminal in your project and run:
npx skills@latest add smeltery/skillsThe installer lets you pick skills and choose which supported agents to install them for. Follow its prompts to select the installation scope.
Already know the skill you want? Install just that one:
npx skills@latest add smeltery/skills --skill diagnose2. Ask your agent to use it
Start with a real task and name the skill:
Use the diagnose skill to investigate this failing test. Most skills can also load automatically when an agent recognizes a matching task. Some run only when you ask; others require a harness event. Every skill page explains its invocation mode.
3. Make the workflow yours
Read the installed SKILL.md. Keep the instructions that help, and adapt the workflow to your project. You can begin with one skill and add more as you need them.
Prefer a manual install?
Copy the entire skill directory from the repository into your agent’s skills directory. Include bundled scripts, references, and assets when present. Check your agent’s documentation for its supported location.
For Claude Code, a personal skill directory can live at ~/.claude/skills/<skill-name>/. For a local checkout, this repository also includes scripts/link-skills.sh.
Common questions
A few useful answers before you get started.
Which agent can I use?
The skills installer supports agents including Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. The instructions are portable Markdown, but individual skills may require additional tools. Read each skill’s instructions before using it.
Should I install every skill?
Start with a specific task. Install a skill for that task, learn its workflow, and expand your toolkit when it helps.
What if my agent doesn’t find the skill?
Check that you installed it for the agent and scope you’re using. Start a new session if your agent requires it, then name the skill explicitly. Review the installer’s output for the destination directory.
How is the repository licensed?
The repository uses the PolyForm Shield 1.0.0 license. Some skills include third-party material with separate attribution. Review the license and third-party notices.
